Top Holiday 2014 Fragrance Picks

Christmas has been a "new fragrance" time of year for me ever since I can remember. When I was younger my dad and I used to peruse the department stores together the week before Christmas and pick out a perfume for my mom and I, and it would be one of my Christmas presents.

Fast forward 10 or so years and here I am, perusing the (internet) department stores in the weeks before Christmas, contemplating fragrance. Fragrance can be such a great and special gift for someone. The key is you have to know the person or their style quite well, so pay attention. What types of fragrances do your friends generally gravitate towards? What kind of lifestyle do they lead? From Hair Perfumes to Body Sprays, there is a plethora of choices! Here is my guide:

My personal favourite category are fragrances that are floral but with a musky, woodsy, masculine undertone. Elizabeth and James Nirvana (from Sephora) in the black variation is the perfect gift for the girl that is into masculine scents but the addition of vanilla sweetens it right up. Let's not forget about the gorgeous sleek packaging. For a more luxe floral take of a masculine scent, Tom Ford Velvet Orchid makes all the fragrance angels sing. It's slightly more feminine than the classic Black Orchid and it's at the top of my fragrance wish list this season.

For a more flirty, airy, feminine girl, Beach Walk by Replica is the epitome of walking on a boardwalk in a light dress, breeze blowing through hair. Bergamot and Coconut come out to play in this scent and it's surprisingly long lasting. Dolce by Dolce & Gabbana deserves to be on this list based on packaging alone. This is a light, feminine floral that would sit well on the shelves of girls who are fans of classics like Chanel Coco Mademoiselle or Dior Miss Cherie.

For the classy lady in your life look no further than Jo Malone. The UK fragrance powerhouse can be found at Nordstrom and other fine department stores, and my personal favourites for this time of year are Vanilla and Anise and Pomegranate Noir. They're simple fragrances but manage to stand out when worn, every time.

Let's not forget the dudes: Tom Ford can do no wrong when it comes to male fragrance, in my opinion. My personal faves from his regular fragrance line (because ain't nobody got time or money for those Private Blends) are For Men and Grey Vetiver. If your dude likes sporty fresh scents like Aqua Di Gio by Armani or Chanel Bleu, Tom Ford For Men will hit the nail on the head. If he's more of a clean and simple but with a bit of an edge, Grey Vetiver is the sexiest "clean" scent I have ever smelled for a man. It smells nothing like the typical male cologne, and that's precisely why I love it so much. Do give it a sniff next time you're browsing for colognes at Sephora.

Hope you found this little round-up helpful! What are your favourite fragrances at the moment?
