Postcards from LA

I was lucky to get to spend the last few days in the sunny Los Angeles area. It was a mini vacation that both The Dude and I had been looking forward to for weeks as we excitedly planned our trip. Despite flying right into LAX we spent very little time in the city itself. Most of our time was divided between Venice and Manhattan Beach, with a day trip to Malibu wedged in between. I wanted to share a few of my favourite moments with you here on the blog:

The Itinerary:

We stayed in Venice for the first few days - in the beautiful historic canal district (away from the craziness of the famous Venice Beach Strip). It finally sank in why Venice was called Venice! We then spent Valentine's Day in Malibu - drove out for about an hour to have lunch on Malibu Pier then spent the rest of the afternoon laying out on El Matador Beach. El Matador beach was beautiful and wild - full of rugged cliffs but also full of people and their coolers everywhere. I guess we weren't that original thinking a picnic on the beach at sunset would be the perfect Valentine's Day!

We ditched El Matador for a quieter part of Zuma Beach nearby and enjoyed (read: inhaled) a giant bag of white cheddar popcorn, looking at the sunset.

The last two days of our trip were spent in Manhattan Beach which was a lot more laid back and relaxed. Our house was half a block away from the beach so we took advantage of that as much as possible. I spent most of my time there eating fish tacos and reading The Goldfinch on the beach, which was absolutely perfect. We went for dinner at Sushi Zo on one of the nights which was absolutely the most delicious and memorable sushi dinners of my life. It is prix fixe menu with endless courses of delicious and meticulously prepared nigiri and sashimi. The couple sitting next to us were having an intense domestic dispute for most of the 2 hour dinner, which made it both sad and entertaining at the same time -__-

Now let the post-holiday depression begin!

How have you been spending your February?
