Givenchy Blurring Foundation Balm

Face makeup comes in many different variations – we have foundations, mineral powders, tinted moisturizers, BB creams, CC creams and… balms?

That’s right. Meet the Givenchy Foundation BalmTeint Couture Blurring Foundation Balm, to be exact. This was the most exciting purchase I made during Sephora’s sale season and it’s time to try it out! The packaging is nice and compact in a plastic squeeze tube. The colour I purchased is #3 Nude Sand, which is a neutral light shade, borderline light/medium. If you’re NC15-20 in MAC this would be a match.

I had to mix it with a touch of a darker shade to get it to match my skin tone right now. Upon initial application, it’s incredibly luxurious and creamy but not heavy. It’s somewhere between the texture of a tinted moisturizer and a foundation. It blends in very easily.
I used a Real Techniques buffing brush to apply it and got a nice light-medium coverage on my face. I applied a second layer on the areas that need more coverage and it built to a medium coverage without looking cakey. The finish is skin-like and natural. Givenchy calls it “an invisible, ultralightweight, skin-fusion foundation for a flawless, bare-skin effect” and I have to agree... upon initial application it ticks all those boxes!

I did not use any oil-controlling primers or powders on this day in order to test its solo lasting power on my combination/oily skin. I applied the foundation at 8:30 and at the halfway mark of my day, you can see some shine coming through (left photo). By the end of my work day at 5 PM I was a full on greaseball (right photo). Now, despite my oiliness not being controlled by the Givenchy Blurring Foundation Balm, the coverage did not fade away. Had I used a primer and/or oil controlling powder and touched up in the middle of the day, this could have easily lasted me through the day. It doesn’t claim to be an oil-controlling product so I won’t judge it as such.

What’s the verdict for me? While I will not be reaching for this on an everyday basis to get me through the workday, I love the easy application, natural finish and light feel on the skin. It’s the perfect “weekend foundation”. I like it more than Makeup Forever Ultra HD because I find it even easier to work with and the actual coverage lasts longer on the skin without migrating.

If you have normal/dry skin, you will love this. If you like Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua, you will love this. Its texture is luxe and smoothing so it will not cling to dry patches. If you’re on the oily side, you will need powder and/or primer to set it in place.

Givenchy Blurring Foundation Balm retails for $43 at Sephora (US Only).
