Things In Tubes 1: Kat Von D High Voltage Eye Primer

Now that I have captivated you with the title, let's get on with the post!

This post is about a series of makeup items that I have been thoroughly using the last several weeks. Coincidentally, they all come in tubes. I prefer tube packaging much much more than things that come in pots.

First up we have the Kat Von D High Voltage Eye Primer. It retails for $15 USD and I bought it at Sephora. This is a primer that you apply on your bare eyelids before any makeup application. What prompted me to purchase this was the colour - it has a warm yellow tint to it. It looks almost like a light/medium concealer with a yellow undertone. When applied it neutralizes any uneven colour on the eyelids. I tend to get a lot of redness underneath my brow bone, and I also have visible veins on my eyelids.

This primer covers everything nicely and evenly. It creates a lovely smooth surface and it makes eyeshadow application on top very easy. It's decent at keeping eyeshadow from creasing for several hours but it does not last through an entire workday for me. I do have very oily eyelids and I get a bit of creasing in my eyeshadow by the end of the day with this product.

For reference, I experience no creasing with Urban Decay Primer Potion. I know that UD make a yellow-tinted Primer Potion called Eden but that one is a lot paler and less warm than the Kat Von D. Nonetheless, if your eyelids are normal/dry and not like the BP oil spill I think that this is a primer worthy of checking out!

What's your go-to eye primer? I have tried eye primers from NARS, Too Faced, MAC and Laura Mercier in the past and I just keep going back to Urban Decay. I'm currently testing a new offering from Maybelline that I'm actually quite impressed with so watch this space. Now if only it came in a tube...
