The Weekend Base: Clarins BB Skin Detox Fluid

The Clarins BB Skin Detox Fluid has been my go-to base on weekends when I don't have anywhere special to go other than the grocery store and a casual diner. It boasts natural, breathable coverage and hydration along with an SPF of 25. It comes packaged as a tube but with a pump, which is excellent.

It comes in 4 shades and I opted for shade 01 Light which despite the name, upon initial application isn't as light as you'd think. It looks quite dark when you initially pump it out of the bottle but it manages to flawlessly blend into the skin once it's on your face. I like to dot it on my skin with my fingers, along with a lighter concealer under my eyes and down the center of my face, then blend everything in.

I get a good medium coverage out of it, which is great for a BB cream. The texture is light and breathable, leaving me with a subtle fresh glow. It does not emphasize dry patches. The lasting power is decent, too. I get about 4 hours of wear before needing to touch up with a bit of powder in my oily T-zone. My favorite way of applying it has been with either with a buffing brush (like the Zoeva foundation brush or this one from Marc Jacobs) or a Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge. The flat end of the sponge is ideal for spreading the BB cream over the skin and ensuring a flawless blend.

I have been pleasantly surprised by this BB cream and love the ease of use and natural look it gives on the skin. It's the perfect weekend base, especially during colder months as skin tends to be in need of comfort and hydration. The only downside is the limited shade selection. It's hard to accommodate everyone with just 4 shades, and the undertones are neutral. Nonetheless, the formula is excellent and well worth checking out (especially if you're a fan of the Dior Nude BB Cream).

Clarins BB Skin Detox Fluid retails for $44 in Canada and is available at The Bay and the Clarins website. In the UK you can find it at Selfridges. I have not seen it in the USA yet, but I am thinking this will replace the existing Clarins Skin Perfecting BB Cream.
