Never Enough Red

There's just something about that perfect bright shade of red that I can't resist - whether in a nail color or in a lipstick - and although I don't wear them often I pounce and purchase. That's what happened when this Rodin Olio Lusso Luxury Lipstick in the shade "Tough Tomato" made its way into my Net-a-Porter cart.

The formula is so amazing, though, that I found myself wearing it more often than I normally would just because it was that comfortable. For the first time I found a lipstick that stayed comfortable, was long lasting, was super pigmented, was easy to apply and actually left my lips feeling MORE hydrated than when we started. There's some wizardry in this formula, I tell ya.

If you're not familiar with Rodin, it is a beauty company founded by a fabulous lady named Linda Rodin. She started out by making and selling her own face oil which became a cult favorite amongst beauty insiders. The line evolved over time adding perfume, body oils, candles, a facial cleansing powder, lip balm and now... lipstick, which launched this year. The lipsticks are infused with the brand's signature 11 oil blend. There are 5 shades available. I opted for Tough Tomato, a bright orange-based red since I knew it was a safe bet for me. I love orange reds. It's bright, opaque and comfortable.

The finish is a soft creamy finish, with a slight sheen. You could always blot away the shine with a tissue if you desire a more matte finish. It fades elegantly if worn through a meal, so it's not like a liquid lipstick that will stay on your mouth for eternity. You will have to reapply if you want to maintain the vibrancy after about 4 hours if you're eating and drinking but you know what? It's so hydrating and such a pleasure to use, you will WANT to reapply. It has a subtle jasmine & neroli fragrance (think hints of Tom Ford Jasmine Rouge) and the packaging is unique and minimal.

It's $38 for 0.14 oz of product. Let's compare this to YSL Rouge Volupte - $37 for 0.12 oz and Tom Ford Lip Color - $53 for 0.1 oz. It's superior in quality compared to both and of a better value. Two thumbs way up and I hope a shade extension is in the near future.
