Clarins Extra-Comfort Cleansing Cream

Clarins Extra-Comfort Cleansing Cream came highly recommended by a few people so I bought this in the middle of the polar vortex this past winter.

My skin was feeling tragically dry and have been using it periodically when I feel like I need something gentle and moisturizing. It comes in a big ol' pot and it looks, feels and smells like a basic moisturizing cream (albeit a slightly lighter texture).

I don't hate it but it just... falls short for me. It's not that great at removing makeup and if I use it after I remove makeup with something like Bioderma, for example, my skin feels like it's not clean. Maybe because I'm used to more thorough cleanses and this is designed for the most sensitive and dry skins, but this just falls short for me in terms of cleansing. I have tried cleansers geared towards the same skin concerns by other brands (La Roche Posay's Toleriane range, Avene) and I found them to be more effective and at a lower price point.

The Clarins cleanser feels nice and luxurious, yes. But other than that... I bet you I can get the same result by slathering a layer of Nivea cream on my face, wiping it off with a washcloth and saving $35 in the process.

Have you ever tried this? Are cream cleansers a thing of the past now or did I just try the wrong one?
