I love brown eyeliner. It means a lot coming from me, a die-hard black kohl liner devotee for many years. As my makeup application skillz evolved there’s just no denying that brown liners do one thing best: enhance and define your eye in a subtle, warm way. If you do not have a brown eyeliner in your collection yet, I highly recommend you pick one up (perhaps one of the ones I suggest in this post) and EMBRACE THE WARMTH!!
All the brown liners I own are pencils. Let’s start with the most “bland”, if you will – Dior Waterproof Eyeliner Pencil in Intense Brown. This is a dark neutral-toned brown with no shimmer in it. It’s a very long-lasting formula that sets nicely and doesn’t fade throughout the day. I have very oily eyelids and this only transfers a teeny tiny bit at the end of a long 8-10 hour day. I can work with that. What I like about it is the versatility of the color – goes with warm or cool-toned looks. The formula is easy to smudge but once it sets, you’re good to go.
Next we have Marc Jacobs Highliner in Brown(Out) – my favorite. The formula is soft and smudge-able but at the same time once it sets it DOES. NOT. MOVE. Amazing lasting power and color payoff. Brown(Out) is a gorgeous neutral brown with gold flecks running through it and I already know I’m going to be obsessed with it come summertime.
MAC Teddy Eye Kohl is perhaps the most well-loved brown liner of the internet and I get why… the colour is lovely. It’s a warm bronzy brown and looks absolutely gorgeous when smudged into a brown smoky eye. Unfortunately this fades the quickest on me. I get roughly 6 hours of it looking nice before it starts to break down.
Urban Decay 24/7 Eyeliner in Whiskey is a warmer, softer pencil that smudges really easily. All Urban Decay eyeliners smudge and transfer easily on my oily eyelids so I save this one for my lower waterline. If you have drier eyelids this will work wonderfully on you and it’s a favorite of many beauty bloggers and editors.
Finally, MAC Kohl Power in Raven. It is darker and even more warm than Teddy. Sadly it was limited edition and is no longer available. It’s a rusty reddish bronze laced with black. This is gorgeous when mixed with reddish brown eyeshadow. This is more long-lasting than Teddy but not as long lasting as the Dior.
