Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Mascara
The Marc Jacobs Beauty line is getting more and more solid as time goes by. Over the last year or so I have discovered some phenomenal products in the range: the Highliner eyeliner are fantastic, the Poutliner lip liner in Honeybun is a must-have and the Remarcable foundation is an awesome full coverage option.
I have the lip glosses on my "to try" list next, as well as some lipsticks but let's not bring up the fact that I have 3 drawers full of lipstick and no place for more. Today's post is about their latest mascara launch: Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara.
I was sent this about a month ago in an extravagant press package complete with LCD screen and video of Marc telling tales of his mom applying mascara when she was younger. The mascara tube itself is very chic, substantial and has multiple edges on it so it stands out a bit in a sea of standard tubes. The brush is not plastic, it's more akin to a standard bristle brush, and it has curves that help grasp the lashes and stretch them out.
The result: beautiful, voluminous, fluttery lashes. They aren't clumpy, they aren't spidery, they aren't crunchy-looking. They're all flutter! If you like Makeup Forever Smoky Lash, Givenchy Noir Couture, L'Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black... you will like this. It gives good volume and length without weighing lashes down.
The cons? It transfers on my lower lash line. I have no issues with it staying on my top lash line but if I ever apply it on my bottom lashes (either on purpose or by accident) I get a smudge after a couple of hours. I do have oily skin so this may not be an issue if you're more dry, but it's something to keep in mind regardless. Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Mascara retails for $33 and is available at Sephora and Neiman Marcus.
What are your thoughts on high end mascara? Do you dabble in them or do you stick to your drugstore staples? I like both!
