Autumn Nail Polish Picks
I've been sporting the shortest of nails this months and ya know what? I don't hate it. I'm done lusting for my old claw nails. I stopped using OPI Nail Envy so my nails don't grow to the talon lengths they used to grow. I will go back to using it at some point but I thought I'd give myself a break since if used too much it causes nails to stain a bit yellow.
Back to my point - short nails are cool. I've been excited to wear my dark polishes as we head into the colder months and I love the way a short nail looks with an intense dark shade of polish. I feel instantly more chic, no matter what outfit I'm sporting.
Aside from the usual suspects like Essie Wicked we have some new kids on the block - a couple of gorgeous Essie Gel Couture shades and Essie Tribal Text-styles which is just fab. An intense dark charcoal with suspended silver shimmer that looks super cool and not tacky. I tend to steer away from shimmers and use glitter polish only on rare occasion but this is a happy medium I can work with. It looks like a dark winter sky.
For neutrals, I just had to kick it old school with a pale creamy taupe - Nails INC Porchester Square is the one (far left). The packaging has changed over the years but the Gel Effect nail polish formula is long lasting and easy to work with. If I want a hint more darkness and some plum in the mix I opt for Essie Gel Couture in Take Me to Thread. I love the name and the formula is excellent. No base coat needed as it's built in. Just two coats of this lovely formula followed by the matching top coat and you're good to go! For a more interesting neutral, the murky hue of Louboutin's Alta Perla caught my attention (far right). The formula... isn't worth the exorbitant price tag but let's be honest - we buy these nail polishes because the packaging is crazy beautiful and it doubles as a vanity accessory. Or a weapon.
For classy autumnal hues we've got Essie Wicked which is a deep deep burgundy shade. This does stain my nails so I mostly wear it on my toes, on repeat, all fall long. For a red, the Essie Gel Couture in Beauty Marked it a crimson red that makes any outfit look instantly chic. I tend to wear a lot of black and greys in autumn so I love to add a pop of red on the nails to brighten up the monochromatic outfits.
