Review: Kate Somerville Anti Bac Acne Clearing Lotion

I bought this spot treatment from Sephora on a whim in order to replace my old benzoyl peroxide lotion from ZO Medical. I like the concept of Kate Somerville skincare and I had never tried anything from her acne range. I was pleasantly surprised by this. It's a 5% benzoyl peroxide acne treatment lotion that contains a special "time-release" mechanism that continues to work on delivering active acne-fighting ingredients throughout the day.

The Anti Bac Acne clearing lotion comes in an awesome airtight container and dispenses with a pump. One pump provides about a hazelnut-sized dollop of product and it's enough to cover all my areas of concern. It doesn't contain any fragrance and the lotion feels very lightweight on the skin. Despite containing benzoyl peroxide it does not bleach my pillowcases, which is awesome! I always had trouble with benzoyl peroxide acne treatments bleaching any coloured pillowcases I had.

The lotion isn't drying and it sinks into the skin without leaving a white film, which makes it good for wearing it during the day underneath makeup as well as at night. At night I personally like to layer it on a bit thicker so I don't care about any white residue on the skin. I've been using this product consistently over the last month and I am really happy with the results. I like using benzoyl peroxide lotion on whiteheads/blemishes that are in the "healing" phase due to its antibacterial properties. I find that it helps clear them quicker and helps prevent more blemishes from appearing because it kills all the acne-fighting bacteria.

Conclusion: this gets my seal of approval. It won't work magic on cystic acne (I find that exfoliating acids work best on those) but if your main concern is whiteheads and superficial blemishes, then the Kate Somerville Anti Bac lotion is definitely worth a shot. It retails for $39 and you can get it at Sephora!
