Christmas party season is in full swing, meaning most of my eye makeup looks these days involve some sort of glitter, shimmer or gold. I decided to take a break from that, and scale back to the most minimalistic and chic eyeshadow colour there is: Taupe.
My love for taupe-toned eyeshadow has been well documented on this blog and on my YouTube channel over the years. Today I wanted to share a current favourite: Clarins Ombre Matte Eyeshadow in #08 Heather.
The Clarins Ombre Matte formula is cream-to-powder, which I love. It's along the same lines as Burberry Eye Colour Creams in terms of texture. This means that it's incredibly soft, smooth and easy to apply. It sets to a powder finish which makes it last longer without creasing. This formula lasts a good 7 hours on my super oily eyelids without creasing or fading, and without the use of primer (!!).
Although the word "Matte" is in the product name, Heather is not a dull shade. It has a hint of a satin finish which gives the eyes the perfect soft defined look. I love applying it with a fluffy blending brush all over the eyelid and working it in and slightly above the crease.
You can apply with a finger instead of a fluffy brush if you want to intensify the colour on the eyelid, and a pencil brush to take the colour on the lower lash line for a bit of soft smoky definition. Add in your favourite smoky black eyeliner pencil, a generous coat of mascara (or fake lashes) and boom - you're good to go.
Effortless, chic, and incredibly cool.
