Face masks are my favorite skincare "pick-me-up". They come in a myriad of formulas and can satisfy any skin type and concern you can imagine. The results are temporary, but boy does it feel nice. I try to do a face mask at least once a week, depending on how my skin feels.
Today's choice is the Tula Exfoliating Mask. It's the prettiest shade of icy blue, it exfoliates in a gentle way, it draws out impurities, minimizes pores AND leaves your skin feeling baby soft. It comes in a jar packaging, you scoop it out with your (clean) fingertips and apply to clean skin. The consistency is perfect - not clumpy or too wet and gloopy - and it's easy to spread it all over the face in an even layer. They recommend you leave it on for 5 minutes before rinsing it off. I usually leave it on for longer because I'm a forgetful human but I would definitely recommend sticking to the 5 minute time frame if your skin tends to be more sensitive or if you're using this mask for the first time. It shouldn't irritate you, but it's good to be on the safe side.
So... what's in it that makes it so darn nice? It's got lots of goodies in it. Lactic acid, which is an alpha hydroxy acid that is more gentle than glycolic, exfoliates the skin and helps texture look more refined. Bentonite and Kaolin clays help draw out impurities and minimize the appearance of pores, natural plant and fruit extracts and oils to keep the formula from drying your skin out, aaaand last but not least some volcanic sand to give you a bit of a scrubbing action (and physical exfoliation). The result is skin that feels clean, looks brighter and is softer.
I do feel a hint of tightness after I rinse it off because my skin has been feeling dehydrated lately, so I recommend following up immediately with a hydrating serum and/or moisturizer. If you're in for an extra pampering session, you can follow up with a moisturizing sheet mask or something along those lines. #TreatYoSelf
