I have a love hate relationship with By Terry - on one hand they have some incredible products that are innovative and luxurious. On the other hand they discontinued my favorite foundation formula and I'm still bitter about it. Nonetheless, I saw that they launched a new lip stick formula and was instantly drawn to it.
They are "click sticks". They are not your typical lipstick bullet or lipstick crayon. They operate very much like a pen in that you click the button at the end and the lipstick comes out the other end in small increments, ready to apply on your lips. I opted for shade #3 (a nude) and #18 (a classic red).
The shape of it is fantastic. It's almost like a big highlighter marker, but in lipstick form. It gives a precise application right from the tube, no lip liner or lip brush needed. I repeat - NO LIP LINER OR LIP BRUSH NEEDED. I was able to get a precise application with both the nude and red shade. It was easy and painless. The formula is incredibly pigmented and lightweight. You don't feel it sitting on your lips at all. One of the best formulas out there right now.
I found the nude shade to have a bit more of a matte finish than the red. Shade #18 has a slight bit of "classic lipstick" sheen to it, but it's gorgeous. Will be absolutely perfect for the holidays! And did I mention how easy these were to apply? They also did not dry my lips out at all!
The price? $32, which makes them less expensive than the likes of Tom Ford ($53) and Chanel ($37); same price as the Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution lipsticks. The catch? It's half the weight of those traditional lipstick tubes, which makes a By Terry Click Stick more expensive if you look at it on a price-per-weight basis. If you are a lipstick hoarder like I am and your lipsticks go bad before you end up using an entire tube *hangs head in shame*, this will not be a deterrent.
In terms of formula quality they are on par if not a bit superior to other luxury lipstick offerings. It's the most weightless and pigmented formula that I have tried. Similar to Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution in terms of comfort but with a more pigmented application. They glide on in a luxurious silky smooth way on the lips and I love the fact that I did not need a lip liner to get a precise application, even on the bolder color option.
It was genuinely difficult for me to find a fault in this product... except for maybe the smell? They have a classic rose lipstick scent, akin to L'Oreal Matte lipsticks or Chanel Rouge Coco. I prefer the vanilla scent of Charlotte Tilbury or the fruity scent of YSL but hey - it's a matter of personal taste and a hurdle I can definitely overcome. I want more shades! They have a total of 25 shades available, and you can get them at Barneys, Net-a-Porter and Space NK.
