Winter Skincare Treats

Flaky skin, dehydration, -20 degree windchill... yuck.

Once the joy of the holidays passes, winter's no fun. Unless, of course, you're in a chalet in the mountains sipping hot toddies in between trips down the ski slopes. In my world, winter means dry skin patches and layering at least 3 tops and wrapping a wool throw around my legs at work because for some reason my office is located in the Antarctica part of the building. On top of that, my Nest thermostat friendly reminds me that my house humidity level is in the 20% range, which does not help matters. What's a girl to do? A girl has to turn to her beauty cabinet (and maybe buy a humidifier).

These three treatment products have been making my winter skin a lot happier, and I'm hoping that if you share my winter struggles you will love them too. I rotate between them depending on how my skin is feeling, and use these babies about 2-3 times a week.

1. First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Mask
This handy dandy little tube is your best friend if your main concern is dry, irritated flaky skin. It comes out like a dense cream but is not greasy. Apply to the skin and wait 10 minutes before rinsing or wiping it off. It is loaded with soothing ingredients that help calm irritated dry skin. A must-have product in your arsenal, especially if you dabble in winter sports.

2. Pur-Lisse Blue Lotus + Seaweed Treatment Sheet Mask
This little sheet mask blew me away. If your main concerns are dullness and dehydration, this guy will brighten and plump your skin, while shrinking pores and minimizing blemishes at the same time. It is restorative and refreshing. I am eager to test out more products from this brand as I love their philosophy of mixing Chinese and French beauty rituals.
The price point ($36 for 6 or $8 individually) is on par with the Sephora brand sheet masks but they are way more effective. I love sheet masks and have tried tons of them over the last couple of years - these ones stand out from the pack.

3. Kat Burki Complete B Vital Hydration Mask
The most luxe of the bunch, but once I saw Caroline Hirons rave about it I knew I had to try it. Luckily I got a deluxe sample of it (if you ever order directly from, generous deluxe samples are a lovely perk) and have been hooked. A little goes a long way, which is comforting given the $140 price tag. The ingredients list is loaded with yummy things like Rosehip Seed Oil, Evening Primrose Oil, Aloe, Calendula, Niacinamide and Vitamin C; which results in seriously glowing skin upon application. It comes out of the tube like a soft cream but turns oily when applied to the face. You can leave it on overnight or wipe the excess off after 20-30 minutes. Sometimes I forget I have it on and just keep it on all day if I am having a lounge-around-the-house day. It helps alleviate dryness and dehydration, and feels like a comforting blanket on my skin. I have another deluxe sample of this at the ready, but will happily splurge for the full size next winter.
