Sweet, Sweet Summer

If I could use just two words to describe my summer style this year, it would be bodysuits and linen. I find myself wearing something from at least one of those categories on a daily basis.

THE SIMPLE & SLEEK BODYSUIT

I’m gravitating more towards bodysuits in lieu of tanks this summer because they just look so much better paired with high waisted bottoms. There’s no extra fabric to worry about tucking in! Out of what I’ve tried thus far, the Aritzia Babaton Clarke Bodysuit $48 would take the cake. I got a few on sale for $32 earlier this season and haven’t looked back - I have it in white, black, red and blue which complements my summer color palette perfectly. I love the super soft and comfortable double-layered fabric and the way it smooths over the body. The only downside? It does not have a snap closure at the crotch so you have to pull it all the way down to go to the bathroom. A sacrifice I’m willing to make in the name of fashun.

LINEN LOVIN’

This airy natural fabric will get you through any heatwave and you’ll be so comfortable you won’t even mind the wrinkles. Think of the wrinkles as a small price to pay in the name of summer comfort. My favorite linen destination has been Reformation. A pricey obsession that I feel pretty good about given that they’re a sustainable brand responsibly manufactured in the US. I purchased my first linen piece from them 2 years ago (see jumpsuit pictured below) and it has held up beautifully so I added the Reformation Juliet Top $148 to my cart this year. I love the flattering feminine silhouette, the sandy hue, and the fact that I can wear it both on and off the shoulders. It also works incredibly well with high waisted jeans, shorts and skirts. BRB while I throw all low rise bottoms in a fire - I never want to see that stuff come back in style, ever. We’ve suffered enough.

Another great linen find has come at a much more wallet-friendly price point - this Zara Asymmetrical Top $49.90 is a great alternative to more pricey versions spotted at Max Mara earlier this season. They also had it available in blue and white, but I stuck to black as I want it to be more of an evening top. I styled it below with high waisted straight leg jeans (shocker) and flat sandals for a more casual date night vibe but it also looks killer with black shorts, gold jewelry and strappy sandals.

SWEATING IN SILK

A stylish but not practical material for summer, silk is something I still dabble in every now and then, mostly reserving it for low humidity days or breezy evenings. Despite its incredibly lightweight feel, it traps heat which isn’t ideal if you live in a very hot and humid area. There are so many cute silk dresses in vintage shops so that’s the first place I’d point you towards if you’re looking for something more unique. Etsy can be your BFF if you don’t feel like perusing the aisles of your local second hand shop. I also adore Realisation Par for their feminine cuts and prints, vintage-inspired but also really modern.
