Summer Capsule Wardrobe Essentials

Summer is moving along at top speed and surprise, surprise: I am wearing… the same 5 things again and again. Over the last couple of years I’ve really grown my wardrobe into something I love - something that makes me feel excited to get dressed in the morning because 1) everything works together and 2) I feel chic and comfortable. This post is about the handful of summer essentials that are making things easy for me this season. If you want more, there’s a video heading your way on the weekend so make sure you’re subscribed to my YouTube channel.

Toteme Espera Tank Top

This tank top silhouette has been increasingly popular and for good reason: it’s so flattering. I love the way it accentuates the shoulders. I saw that Toteme do this sand color and I had to have it - it’s a nice break from white that still works with everything in my wardrobe. I then also ordered it in black because I love an all black outfit, no matter the season. I also love the look of the Verona tank by Cotton Citizen for a similar vibe if you want more shade options.

High Waisted Culottes

I bought this black pair of bamboo fabric casual culottes on my first trip to Tulum a couple of years ago, and I have worn them to death every vacation and every summer since. They are by Laguna Collective, a sustainable local brand that I love to support every time I visit. They do ship internationally via their online shop, if you’re interested. I find these pants so flattering, they look really cute with sneakers, sandals and slides - they’re a slightly more put together alternative to sweatpants but still just as comfortable. The bamboo fabric is really nice and breathable, too.

Vince Glyn Chunky Sandals

I have loved the look of the classic Birkenstock Arizona sandal for a long time, however every time I tried on a pair, something felt off - then came along these Vince slides. They are similar to the classic Birks style but a touch more polished with the smooth leather upper, black buckles and black suede lining the platform. The white stripe is also a nice way to break up the solid black of the sandal, and of course they’re incredibly comfortable.

Vintage Oversized Blazer

This light taupe blazer is the perfect addition to a slinky silk slip dress or an otherwise plain outfit. I love the dramatic shoulder pads - I used to hate shoulder pads but now here I am, fully converted. This is a men’s blazer a few sizes larger than my normal size, and I love the juxtaposition of a boxy shape against a more sleek flowy skirt or dress. I found it at Vintage Elegante, and there are tons of great options on eBay as well. The trick is to search for a men’s blazer if you’re after a boxy oversized shape.

Orseund Iris Ballerina Mini Skirt

I had been thinking about this skirt ever since I saw it in one of Lizzy Hadfield’s photos. She has it in a lighter hue and I just love the way she effortlessly styled it. I had allocated mini skirts to the “going out” category of clothes and hadn’t even considered styling them in a more casual way. So now that I have this skirt in my life I have been wearing it with chunky slides, flip flops and sneakers, almost as if it was shorts. It is so pretty, so comfortable and a little bit flirty. I wear boy shorts underneath to avoid a breezy upskirt moment, but I am so happy to have this in my wardrobe!
